These rules center around enabling safety, then fun, in the following order:
protecting members
protecting the Association
making the recreation center a nice place to be (even if you can't do everything you might want to do)
Expand each section with the drop-down arrow to read all the details.
If you have concerns or feedback about the rules, please submit feedback; if you have concerns or feedback about things at the recreation center, read on.
Rule: Adults must supervise children under 14 at all times, and are responsible for their welfare.
Advice:
Don't swim alone if you can help it. A buddy can notice if you get in trouble.
Know your limits and don't swim beyond them. Don't rely on a life jacket alone to protect you or any struggling swimmers.
What to do in the event of an emergency:
use the lifesaving equipment posted on the fence adjacent to the entrance/parking lot
call 911
notify Jackson Oaks Association (faciliities@joamh.org) immediately after it is safe to do so (see "report incidents, problems, and concerns")
Don't enter the pool if you've had diarrhea in the last 2 weeks.
Take a shower before entering the pool - at home, in our restrooms, in your front yard - anywhere, but please be clean.
Get out of the pool immediately if you have a "bodily function" accident or observe one: blood, vomit, and feces require professional cleanup, and the pool is unsafe until that happens. See "Handle serious incidents correctly" below for full details on what to do.
No diving into the pool - ever (not even on the deep end).
No running or horseplay (in or out of the pool).
Keep pool furniture at least four feet away from any part of the pool; it's hard to help somebody struggling in the water if there are chairs in the way.
We're strict about these items, because we don't want any confusion: leave everything here at home and do not bring these things to the recreation center.
Smoke what you like elsewhere (we don't judge), but at the recreation center, including the parking lot, there is no smoking or vaping of any kind allowed at any time.
We all want to be able to walk around in bare feet. Do not bring things that break into shards when dropped or tipped over into the pool area (not even if you promise to be "really careful"):
no glass, including beer and wine bottles, cups, flutes, wine glasses, glass food containers, etc. in the pool area If broken glass gets into the pool, it will need to be closed, drained and professionally cleaned (at a large expense to the responsible member and to the great annoyance of everyone else). If Franzia isn't your thing, decant your wine into plastic containers before you come, and bring beer in cans only.
no ceramics, including ceramic plates, bowls, bakeware, etc. in the pool area
Pets are banned from (but service animals are welcomed at) the recreation center. Do not bring a pet disguised as a service animal. Yes, we've seen the little vests available on Etsy, too, but non-service animals are still not allowed (even the cute ones).
We know it's polite to hold the door for people coming through behind you, but use your keycard to pass through the front gate and access the bathrooms, and please ask anyone who's not in your party following you to do the same.
Get your keycard via our keycard request form, and contact keycards@joamh.org for help with a keycard that's not working; it's possible the pool has been closed and nobody is supposed to be coming in at that moment
Ensure doors fully close and latch behind you - when you come in, and when you go out.
Do not prop the gate open (even for your guests).
The only reservable part of the pool area is the gazebo; everything else is first-come, first-serve:
chairs and lounges
tables (at most one table for any one member and their 4 guests, please)
the grill
the pool
We do not have a cleaning staff on site to tidy up - even a little - during the pool day. Clean up your spills, trash, and messes. Cleaning supplies are located in the shade under the clubhouse deck near the bathrooms.
Nobody wants to use a dirty restroom. We have them professionally cleaned weekly, but treat our restrooms like you would those in your own home and leave them clean and neat. If you see a mess when you enter, take a photo before you use the restroom and send it to facilities@joamh.org (or just send an email describing what it is/what needs to be cleaned - but do tell us either way!) Please do not use a dirty restroom and fail to alert us.
Some emergent circumstances make it unsafe to swim. Swimming is prohibited until subsequent notice; don't wait until receiving official notification of a closure.
Exit the water immediately in any of the following circumstances and contact facilities@joamh.org to ensure Association responds to the situation
The water is cloudy or turbulent and/or it's hard to see the bottom clearly; until it's clear again, somebody could fall to the bottom and not be noticed.
No lights on in the pool or on the pool deck at sunset; normally the lights turn on automatically, but if they don't, nobody may remain in or enter the pool.
There's been a power outage; the pool pumps need to run continuously to sanitize the water. The pool is closed until someone can verify safe chemical levels in the water again.
Vomit, blood, or fecal material got in the water (whether or not it's still visible)
Broken glass in the pool
Any other common-sense safety scenario, e.g. thunderstorms, waste water running over the deck into the pool, etc.
Do not try to fix closure problems yourself; the Association needs to handle them (and by law, record their occurrence in certain cases).
Obey signage at the pool, and don't go in the water when the pool is closed. Closures will be posted on signs around the pool, and will often be announced on AppFolio and on this website. In the event of a conflict with online status, signage at the pool is authoritative.
The pool's posted hours vary (check this page) - do not linger on the premises past closing time (i.e. closing time means "off the rec center property", so plan to exit the pool and start packing up on time accordingly).
Gazebo rentals are for four hours maximum, including cleanup. Please be completely cleaned up and out of the gazebo when your time ends.
If you use a table with an umbrella, lower it before you leave. You can use good judgement; if there are other people asking to use your table, you can leave the umbrella up, but if you're there at the end of the day, just close it up when you go (don't assume somebody will do it later).
Communicating with the Association happens afterward:
Creepy or threatening behavior: act as you would anywhere else in public:
If you feel unsafe, leave and/or call 911.
When it's safe to do so, email a report to facilities@joamh.org. Include:
If you feel unsafe taking photos, don't - just describe the offender(s) as best you can in words.
Broken glass in the pool
We
Unsanitary pool water or drowning
By law, we must close the pool until it has been made safe and maintain a record of these incidents. Include:
The date and time of the incident, and any facts known about the circumstances and cause.
The number of pool users in the public pool and the length of time (if known) between the occurrence and when you detected the incident
Fecal, blood, or vomit contamination
Exit the pool waters and advise others on the premises to do the same before contacting the Association.
Include in your report whether the fecal stool observed was formed or diarrheal.
Drowning (fatal or nonfatal)
Before reporting anything, provide lifesaving assistance and call 911 if needed.
Whether or not you called 911, whether or not anyone was seriously injured or subsequently needed medical attention, contact the Association as above.
Power outage
Exit the pool waters and advise others on the premises to do the same before contacting the Association.
How to report anything to the Association: email a report to facilities@joamh.org. Include the approximate time of the offense, describe the incident, problem, or concern in words, and attach photo(s) of the situation if you feel safe capturing photos.
Various situations to report:
Dirty restrooms: if you see a mess when you enter a restroom, take any photos before you use the restroom. Please do not use a dirty restroom and fail to alert us.
Dirty pool (leaves, rocks, etc. in the pool)
Pool furniture left in disarray (umbrellas left up overnight, tables rearranged and not put back in place)
Broken or missing equipment (e.g. missing life ring or cleaning supplies)
Hazardous conditions (e.g. broken stairs)
This facility is for members and their guests only, and is not open to the general public at any time.
Four (4) guests per member (household) maximum, unless you are renting the gazebo.
Fifteen (15) total persons maximum (including members) if you are renting the gazebo.
Members, don't leave your guests at the pool without you. The pool is for you and guests, not for you to let your guests in and leave.
Members, you are responsible for anyone you bring or allow into the facility (i.e. people your friends let in, and not you) - and the Association will hold you accountable if your guests don't obey the rules.
Do not prop the gate open (even for your friends), and don't let people in you don't know.
